Taking advantage of the weather on Monday, Scott proposed an evening run on WhatsApp with a departure time of 6.45pm at the latest leaving from McDonalds, Bellfield roundabout and destination to be decided prior to leaving.
Rachel said that she might be able to make it as did Mitch. Scott arrived at McDonalds first followed by Rachel. Mitch left a WhatsApp messge asking for the destination to be posted and he would catch up along the route. Largs appeared the best place so Scott posted that they were heading to Largs and both Honda NC's left with Scott leading.
It was an ideal opportunity for Scott to finally test the NC's LED headlights both for oncoming brightness (checked via his mirrors on Rachels NC behind) and in the dark for the return journey.
The ride along the A78 was uneventful although surprisingly a little chilly. Mitch joined in at the roundabout north of Ardrossan.
The Blue Lagoon was the Largs chippie destination and because of the evening temprature dropping it was decided to sit in. The waitress forgot to hand out cutlery. Being the biker-type we are, no-one notified the waitress of the missing silvery and chose instead to use their fingers.
An interesting conversation started with Mitch using a JCB when describing the appearance of female bikers... Although he tried to fill the hole he had dug himself, his attempts were entrirely unsuccessful. The subject of names came up which resulted in Scott refusing to devulge is middle name. A few guesses were made, but Rachel insists she will prevail and discover the magicians best kept secret.
During the conversation Mitch discovered that he'd forgotten his wallet, or so he thought... Rachel offered to pay for Mitch's dinner, but at emergency loan interest rates. With a choice of paying up at a later date or washing all of the Blue Lagoon's dishes, Mitch decided to be in Rachel's debt.
On returning to the bikes Mitch “found” is wallet inside is helmet. Suggestions on a postcard as to how this came to happen.
Surprisingly the ride home with Scott leading was noticably warmer than the run to Largs. It gave Scott the opportunity to see how the NC's LED lights were compared to traditional halogen. Both dipped beam and full beam scored highly.
Mitch left for Irvine while Scott and Rachel headed to Kilmarnock peeling off at the Bridgend Garage to end an enjoyable night. No one got lost and flares were not required during the run. However, unfortunately no photos were taken of the run which is lesson number one for the next one.
